Our Company

In 1881 Mr Bateman and Mr Ogden came together to establish a brand new textile business in Bradford – the heart of the UK textile industry.

Little could they have imagined that 130 years later, the name Bateman Ogden & Co Ltd would be renowned across the globe as one of the finest suppliers of luxury suit length fabrics.

Today we supply high-quality fabrics to tailors across every continent; delivering an elegant range, a wide choice of fabrics and excellent customer service to our discerning customers.

As we specialise in fabrics made in the UK we have been able to develop close relationships with some of the finest textile mills in Yorkshire to bring you the very best suit length fabrics. Blending traditional favourites with innovative new designs, we offer a vast range and carry one of the largest amounts of stock of any cloth merchant – guaranteeing you a speedy order and delivery.

Richard's introduction to the textile industry began at a traditional Yorkshire mill where he worked for 10 years before joining Bateman Ogden in 2002.

With his experience gained at the mill, combined with his IT and marketing skills, Richard has played a major role in the on-going development of the business over the past decade.

Richard recognised that although the company already had a solid reputation with UK tailors, there were opportunities to introduce Bateman Ogden to new territories across the world. Richard therefore took responsibility for the company's growing export division and Bateman Ogden now supplies fine cloth to every continent.

In 2012, Richard became a director at Bateman Ogden and is now responsible for day-to-day business operations and developing the future of the company.

Our Heritage

1881

Mr Bateman and Mr Ogden join forces to establish Bateman Ogden & Co Ltd – a small Yorkshire textile firm which would later play an important part in making fabric for soldiers serving in World War I.
1942

J. Harry Garnett of the eminent textile family – the Garnett's of Apperley Bridge, acquire Bateman Ogden & Co Ltd during World War II.
1952

J. Harry Garnett’s youngest son, Hugh joins the company and he continues in the family business specialising in weaving wool gabardine.
1956

The company moves from its original home at Holme Top Mill in Bradford to premises in the city's Peckover Street.
1966

The company moves from its Peckover Street location to new premises on Church Bank in Bradford. They expand on their now thriving suit length business.
1972

Bob Collins is invited to join Hugh Garnett at Bateman Ogden. With Bob’s expertise selling to the trade, the company begins selling fine fabrics to some of the UK’s most esteemed tailors.
1973

The company moves into new premises on Wakefield Road in Bradford - from where the business still operates today. Bob Collins is made a Director of the company.
1981

Bateman Ogden celebrates 100 years
in business.
2004

Bateman Ogden continues to grow and gains its first overseas export clients. Today, the company has 15 agents worldwide and exports to every continent.
August 25th 2011

Following a short illness the then owner Hugh Garnett deceased at the age of 79 after working full time in the company since the age of 16.
He will be sadly missed by all.
2012

Richard Lunn is made a director at Bateman Ogden. Bateman Ogden supplies fabric for use at the London 2012 Games.
2012-2022

Although the textile industry is sure to change over the next decade, Bateman Ogden is committed to providing the same high quality and service it has become renowned for throughout its rich history.
